Wilhelm Ewald (administrative lawyer)

Wilhelm Ewald (born June 19, 1825 in Gotha ; † July 13, 1887 there ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Born as the son of a privy councilor , senior librarian and director of the Friedenstein collection, Ewald studied law in Jena and Bonn after attending grammar school in Gotha . During his studies in 1845 he was one of the founding members of the Frankonia fraternity in Bonn . After his studies he became district administrator in Coburg and from 1872 in Gotha . Heinrich Schaumberger immortalized his time as district administrator in Coburg in his novel Fritz Reinhardt in 1876 . From 1865 he was a member of the Gotha state parliament . He became president of the ducal court office in Coburg with the title of court chamber president. He was a confidante of Duke Ernst II . In 1882 he became general director of the fire insurance bank in Gotha.
