Helmut Kropp (born September 27, 1940 ) is a former German soccer player. He played from 1959 to 1962 for SC Einheit Dresden and 1966/67 for Dynamo Dresden in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Until 1958 Helmut Kropp played in the company sports community (BSG) Lokomotive Dresden-Mitte, most recently in their junior team . For the 1959 season (calendar game year) he was given to the upper division club SC Einheit Dresden. There he was used from the 13th match day for the injured striker Jochen Fischer in six league games. In 1960, Kropp was part of the team of players in the SC unit, having completed 19 league games and scored four goals. It was the same in 1961/62 when GDR football was switched to the summer-spring season. 39 games were played in the Oberliga, of which Kropp played 32 games and scored six goals. It was the last league season for Einheit Dresden, as the team had to be relegated at the end of the season. In the following four GDR league seasons, Kropp was still a permanent member of the SC unit. In the 116 league games he was called up 96 times. After becoming the team's second-best goalscorer behind Klaus Engels in 1963 and 1965 with nine and seven goals respectively , he scored 15 times in the 1965/66 season and thus became the top scorer of the Dresden team, whose team was spun off from the sports club in January 1966 was and from then on had to compete as a football sports association Lokomotive.

Due to his last performance, local rival and league club Dynamo Dresden caused a change from Kropp to his own team for the 1966/67 season. Although Erich Siede, a regular striker, was eliminated, Kropp was only summoned to his position in two league games. The rest of the time he was used in the top division reserve.

After a one-year interlude, Kropp returned to the FSV Lok. After 25 appearances in 30 GDR league games and six goals in 1967/68, he had another season in 1968/69 in which he played all 30 league games and was once again the top scorer of the FSV Lok, this time with eight goals. After that, his career came to an end. 1969/70 he was able to complete 21 league games, in the following season there were only ten league stakes. He did not score any more goals and it seemed as if he had ended his career in the GDR-wide football game. But in the two seasons 1973/74 and 1974/75 he reported back with two or one GDR league appearance for the last time. When he finally retired from competitive sport at the age of 35 in 1975, Helmut Kropp could look back on 59 league games with ten goals and 185 appearances in the GDR league with 47 goals.
