Helmut Lipfert (born August 6, 1916 in Lippelsdorf ; † August 10, 1990 in Einbeck ) was a German Air Force officer , most recently a captain and fighter pilot in World War II .

Second World War

Lipfert was the leader of the Reich Labor Service. From there, on November 3, 1937, he joined the news department 37 of the 1st Panzer Division and took part in the Polish and Western campaign with this as a sergeant in September 1939.

At the beginning of 1941 he enlisted in the air force , received a fighter pilot training, was appointed as a sergeant on June 16, 1942 as a war officer candidate and on August 1, 1942 to lieutenant d. R. promoted.

After training as a pilot , he was assigned to the 6th Squadron of Group II of Jagdgeschwader 52 on December 16, 1942 . With this squadron, Lipfert flew all its missions on the Eastern Front, whereby it was shot down 13 times by Russian flak and 2 times by Russian fighters - each time unwounded. He achieved his first aerial victory on January 30, 1943 on his 18th enemy flight. On September 5, 1943, he became a squadron leader of the 6th squadron with 20 aerial victories. For his 90th victory in the air, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on April 5, 1944 . Shortly afterwards, on April 11, 1944, Lipfert achieved its 100th victory in the air. He scored his 150th kill on October 24, 1944. On February 15, 1945, he took over as commander of I. Group of Jagdgeschwader 53 . This was used next to the II./JG52. There he won his 200th aerial victory on April 8, 1945. After his 203rd victory in the air, which was his last, he was awarded the Knight's Cross as the 837th soldier on April 17, 1945. Lipfert flew 700 enemy flights in total. His kills also include two four-engine bombers that he achieved over Romania. Another 27 kills could not be confirmed.

Post-war years

After the war, Lipfert became a teacher and described his experiences as a fighter pilot during the retreat on the Eastern Front from 1943–1945. In 1973 he published his book Das Tagebuch des Hauptmann Lipfert in several editions .
