Helmut Rieger (journalist)

Helmut Rieger (born October 8, 1931 ; † December 20, 2019 in Hanover ) was a German journalist .

Life

Helmut Rieger, who was born during the Weimar Republic , attended the Andreanum grammar school in Hildesheim in 1944 and 1945 during the Second World War . In the post-war period he worked as a political journalist for the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung in the 1950s and 1960s .

In 1970 Rieger joined the editorial team of Rundblick - Political Journal for Lower Saxony , of which he took over a few years later in 1974. Until his retirement in 1993, Rieger had a decisive influence on the paper as editor-in-chief and developed “the panorama into an unmistakable part of the Lower Saxony media landscape”. Even decades later, he acted as a "journalistic role model for generations after him."

Even after he retired, Rieger wrote occasionally for the Rundblick.

In 1995 Rieger published his book Alles hat seine Zeit for the 50th anniversary of Lower Saxony . Lower Saxony turns fifty .

For his work, Rieger was honored with the Great Cross of Merit of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit .

Rieger was buried in the Stöcken city cemetery.
