Helmut Scherer (* 1955 in Zweibrücken ) is a German communication and media scientist .

Life

After graduating from high school , Helmut Scherer, who was born in Saarland , studied journalism as a main subject as well as philosophy and German studies at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz .

Today Helmut Scherer is professor for communication and media studies at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Research at the University of Music and Drama Hanover . From 2002 to 2010 he was director of the institute with interruptions.

His main interests are:

Scherer's most important contribution to the formation of theories in communication science is his criticism of the theory of the spiral of silence . In addition, he is considered one of profiliertesten connoisseur of news value theory.
