Helmut Skowronek

Helmut Skowronek (born October 31, 1931 in Breslau , Lower Silesia ; † July 26, 2019 in Bielefeld ) was a German psychologist and former rector of Bielefeld University .

Live and act

Helmut Skowronek had to leave Breslau after the end of the war. After graduating from high school in Stadthagen , he began studying psychology in 1952 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , which he graduated with a diploma in 1957 . From 1958 to 1960 Skowronek was as a research assistant at the university in Vechta operates. Back in Göttingen, he received his doctorate in 1967 on the subject of cognitive structures and cognitive processes in educational psychology . In 1970 Helmut Skowronek moved to the University of Hamburg as professor and scientific advisor . In September 1971 he accepted a position at Bielefeld University, which was only founded in 1969. From 1971 to 1973 he was the founding dean of the Faculty of Education, Psychology and Philosophy . From 1983 to 1989 Helmut Skowronek was Vice Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs, from 1992 to 1996 Rector of Bielefeld University.

As the Eastern European Commissioner at Bielefeld University, Helmut Skowronek was still heavily involved in intensifying cooperation with Eastern European universities even after his retirement in 1996.

Helmut Skowronek was chairman of the German-Israeli society in Bielefeld. Together with Gerd Mannhaupt , Harald Marx , Heiner Jansen and others, he developed the Bielefelder Screening for the early detection of reading and spelling difficulties (BISC) . He is an honorary member of the Pan-European Studienwerk (GESW) in Vlotho .
