The Pan-European Studienwerk e. V. ( GESW ) in Vlotho is an independent educational and meeting place for young people and adults from Western , Central and Eastern Europe , where seminars , training courses and conferences take place. The Studienwerk is publicly recognized as a carrier of free youth welfare according to the eighth book of the Social Code ( SGB ​​VIII ) and as an institution for further training under other sponsorship under the further education law of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

target

The educational offers of the GESW serve the education of democracy and the pan-European integration. They are intended to strengthen the opinion and judgment of the participants, to encourage democratic participation as well as to the discussion of current issues of European integration . The Studienwerk wants to build bridges for a strong, united Europe.

activity

The Studienwerk organizes seminars, conferences and international encounters. The main areas of work are European politics , German history and politics, social participation , intercultural life and study trips . The association also deals with the topics of German unity , European Union , globalization , international relations and the welfare state .

The GESW is certified according to the quality management system of the “Gütesiegelverbundes Further Education e. V. “certified.

Facilities

The GESW site in Vlotho comprises four buildings. The administration and seminar rooms are located in "Haus Warszawa ". These include two lecture halls for 65 and 25 people, a conference room for 30 people and a computer room with four workstations. The total of 31 guest rooms for up to 64 people are spread over the three houses “ Sofia ”, “ Budapest ” and “ Praha ”. The dining room is also located in the latter.

For its work, the GESW receives funding from the Federal Children and Youth Plan (KJP), the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb), the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MFKJKS ), the Ministry for Schools and Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe (LWL).

Memberships

The Studienwerk is a member of the working group of German educational institutions e. V. (AdB) as well as member and central office of the working group of the East-West-Institutes e. V. (OWI).

people

The GESW board consists of six people. The chairman of the board is Zbigniew Wilkiewicz. Theo Mechtenberg is the honorary chairman . Helmut Skowronek is an honorary member . The Studienwerk employs four lecturers as scientific and pedagogical employees with backgrounds in politics , economics , history and cultural studies as well as five administrative staff and seven employees in housekeeping .

history

The GESW was founded in 1954 by a citizens' initiative . Since then, the Studienwerk has endeavored to network locally, regionally and nationally. Walter Hildebrandt was the first director from 1954 to 1964 .

Publications

The Studienwerk operates a blog on its homepage. There is also the publication series “Forum Europa” and “Current East Information”. It publishes country information and seminar reports.
