Helmut Valentin

Helmut Valentin (born November 1, 1919 in Bochum ; † August 17, 2008 ) was a German occupational physician .

Valentin studied medicine at the University of Cologne , the University of Erlangen and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . While serving as an assistant and senior physician at the University Hospital in Cologne 1945-1965 habilitation he did in 1956. In 1965 he received a reputation as a professor for Labor and Social Medicine at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg , also director of the Institute for Occupational and social medicine in Erlangen. From 1969 to 1970 he was Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1989 he retired .

Valentin died in 2008 at the age of 88 and was buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 6 (Q)).

Act

He played a major role in the development of the occupational medicine field in Germany.

In addition to many other engagements, he was the long-standing President of the German Medical Faculty Conference and long-standing President, later Honorary President, of the German Society for Occupational Medicine and Environmental Medicine (DGAUM). He has received several awards for his work, including the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class, the Bavarian Order of Merit , the Bavarian State Medal for Social Merit and the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class as well as the Ernst von Bergmann plaque of the German Medical Association.
