Helmut Wriedt

Helmut Wriedt (* 1922 in Hassee ) was a German handball player.

Career

Wriedt was born in Hassee, a district of the state capital Kiel. From a young age he was interested in handball. He became a member of the local sports club THW Kiel in whose field handball team he was soon one of the regular players. The THW Kiel was one of the leading German field handball teams even before the Federal Republic of Germany was founded. As early as 1948, the THW became German field handball champion (at that time still called the Interzone Championship ) with the line-up of Helmut Wriedt, Heinrich Dahlinger , Kalli Feddern , Rolf Krabbenhöft , Kurt Ochs , Herbert Podolske , Herbert Rohwer , Theo Schwedler , Heinz-Georg Sievers , Fritz Westheider , and Fritz Weßling . THW Kiel repeated this success in 1950. Helmut Wriedt was there again and won the championship title together with Jürgen Kniphals , Schwedler, Sievers, Westheider, Podolske, Krabbenhöft, Dahlinger, Heinz Rieckmann , Ochs, Heinrich Bücker , Rohwer and Weßling.

For winning the German field handball championship in 1950, Helmut Wriedt and the THW master team were awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Theodor Heuss on December 1, 1950 .

He was also honored by the fact that the sports hall of the Hasse School was named after him (Helmut-Wriedt-Halle).
