Fritz Westheider (born November 30, 1909 in Kiel , † August 10, 1999 ibid) was a German field handball player and handball coach .

Career

Fritz Westheider grew up in the Hassee district of Kiel . He started playing handball at the age of 14, having previously played soccer . From 1926 he played at THW Kiel , initially as a goalkeeper, although he was rarely used in this position, then from 1928 as a field player. In 1929 he began to learn the coaching trade with Otto Günther Kaundinya , and from 1930 he was the player- coach of the first men's team of the THW. In 1950 he ended his playing career, eight years later as a coach. During this time he won three German championships with THW Kiel , in 1948 and 1950 on the large field and in 1957 in the hall. From 1954 he was also an instructor at the handball association Schleswig-Holstein and from 1959 at the German Handball Federation .

Fritz Westheider was the first international player for the THW, he made his international debut on June 5, 1937 in Copenhagen against Denmark as a left winger .

In addition to handball, Westheider was a talented athlete , he held several club records, including pentathlon and javelin .

Honors

In 1950 Fritz Westheider was honored with the silver bay leaf . In 1964 he received the sports badge of the state of Schleswig-Holstein .
