Fritz Weßling

Fritz Weßling (born in the 20th century) is a former German handball player.

Career

Fritz Weßling comes from what is now the North Rhine-Westphalian part of the Weser Uplands. Since he was interested in handball from a young age , he joined the sports club TUS Lahde, a club in the former town of Lahde , which is now part of the city of Petershagen ( Minden-Lübbecke district ) and which had its own handball department. Fritz Weßling played in the local handball team in the 1930s, partly in the district class and partly in the district class field handball.

Before the Second World War he played in the German national student team and, as a center forward, was the engine of the German student selection at the student games in Paris.

After the war he became a member of the THW Kiel , in whose first team he was used as a center forward from 1946. In the first national championship after 1945 he won the first German championship in field handball with the THW in the final against Waldhof Mannheim with 10: 8 in 1947/48 with the line- up Herbert Podolske , Kalli Feddern , Kurt Ochs , Rolf Krabbenhöft , Helmut Wriedt , Herbert Rohwer , Weßling, Fritz Westheider , Heinrich Dahlinger , Hans-Georg Sievers. (In fact, it was only the interzone championship , as clubs from the former eastern zone did not take part in the championship games.)

Fritz Weßling was also at the German handball championships in 1950. In the line-up of Weßling, Helmut Wriedt, Heinrich Bücker , Heinrich Dahlinger, Jürgen Kniphals , Kurt Ochs, Rolf Krabbenhöft, Herbert Podolske, Heinz Rieckmann , Herbert Rohwer, Theo Schwedler , HG Sievers, Fritz Westheider, THW beat in the final of the German field handball championship the SV Police Hamburg with 10: 9) and became German champion in field handball.

For winning the German championship in field handball in 1950 Fritz Weßling and the German championship team were awarded the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Theodor Heuss on December 1, 1950 .
