August Reinhold Orlovius

August Reinhold Orlovius (born August 14, 1806 in Marggrabowa , † July 13, 1887 in Danzig ) was royal Prussian major general and most recently in command of the Pillau fortress .

His parents were the landowner Johann Reinhold Orlovius and his wife Barbara Korth .

Life

He attended high school in Lyck and later the division school in Danzig. On December 8, 1824, he joined the 4th Infantry Regiment as a fusilier, where he became a non-commissioned officer in 1826. On November 13, 1829 he was promoted to Portepeefähnrich and on November 12, 1831 to Second Lieutenant. In the period from April 1, 1837 to December 31, 1849 he was adjutant of the 2nd Battalion and on May 21, 1847 was appointed Premier-Lieutenant. On September 10, 1850, he became a captain and company commander. He was then promoted to major on March 27, 1858 and transferred to the 33rd Infantry Regiment , where he came to Bartenstein as commander of the Landwehr battalion . On July 1, 1860, he was then battalion commander in the 33rd Infantry Regiment, and on September 26, 1860 he was awarded the 4th Class Red Eagle Order . On October 18, 1861 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel there. Due to a serious illness, he was transferred to the fortress of Pillau on April 18, 1865 as commandant, and he was assigned à la suite of the 33rd Infantry Regiment. He received the character of a colonel on June 18, 1865 . During the mobilization for the German War , he was transferred to the 9th Landwehr Regiment as a commander on May 20, 1866; on June 8, 1866, he received a patent as colonel there, and on September 17, 1866, he was able to return to his peace position.

On January 17, 1869 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class, with ribbon . On April 12, 1870, he received the character of major general and was put up for disposal with a pension . He later became bedridden and died in Danzig on July 13, 1887.

His regimental commander wrote in his assessment in 1857: This officer, especially distinguished by his tireless activity, reliability, seriousness and determination, devotes his entire life to the service of His Majesty. As a result, his company is at a high level of education and has the best of spirits. He is a role model for all officers in the regiment and, thanks to a thorough scientific education, is of the opinion that he can lead and lead a well-trained officer corps for the highest service. These excellent properties recommend him for a special promotion in the past as well as now.

family

He married on August 4, 1843 in Danzig Johanna Auguste Hepper (* 1819, † June 18, 1893), a daughter of the magistrate Friedrich Wilhelm Heppner . The couple had a daughter named Luise .
