Theo Schwedler (born 1922 ) is a former German handball player.

Career

Theo Schwedler comes from Kiel . In 1928 he started school in the Hassee district , together with his future teammates at THW Kiel, Helmut Wriedt , Heinrich Bücker and Herbert Rohwer . Since he was enthusiastic about handball from his youth, he became a member of the THW, in whose handball department he played and was soon one of the regular players in the 1st team. With this team he took part in the first German handball championship after World War II in 1947/48, in which the THW with the line-up Wriedt, Rohwer, Herbert Podolske , Kalli Feddern , Kurt Ochs , Rolf Krabbenhöft , Fritz Weßling , Fritz Westheider , Heinrich Dahlinger , Heinz-Georg Sievers became the first German field handball champion after the war, after beating SV Waldhof 07 10: 8 in the final (in fact it was only an interzone championship, as the handball players from the eastern zone at that time did not take part in the championship games) .

In 1950, the THW won the German field handball championship again with Schwedler in the team, after narrowly defeating SV Police Hamburg 10: 9 in the final. The tide turned at the 1951 championships: Again the THW played with Schwedler against the Hamburg police. This time, however, the Kiel clearly lost 4:12 and were runner-up in field handball.

For winning the German championship in field handball in 1950, Schwedler and the entire THW team were awarded the Silver Laurel Leaf by Federal President Theodor Heuss on December 1, 1950 .
