Helmut Zimmermann (politician)

Helmut Zimmermann (born April 8, 1948 in Bludenz ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Zimmermann was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1994 to 2000 and mayor of the Vorarlberg municipality of Bürs from 1988 to 2013 .

Helmut Zimmermann was born on April 8, 1948, the son of the municipal administrator Ferdinand Zimmermann and his wife Mathilde. He attended elementary school in his home town of Bürs and secondary school in the neighboring district capital of Bludenz, before he began an apprenticeship as an industrial technician at the Bludenz textile company Getzner Textil with accompanying attendance at the vocational school in Bregenz. He completed this apprenticeship as an electrician in 1965 and worked for Getzner for another year.
In 1966 he joined the Austrian Federal Railways , where he trained as a train driver and passed the state examination for electric and combustion traction vehicles. In 1975 he also passed the master's examination as a machine master .

Zimmermann first became politically active in 1980 when he became a member of the municipal council and council in his home municipality of Bürs . As a local council, he was responsible for the families and social affairs departments until 1988. On June 30, 1988, Helmut Zimmermann was appointed mayor of the municipality of Bürs, and in 2013 he resigned prematurely.

Zimmermann was finally appointed to the state parliament in 1994, when he succeeded his party colleague Wilhelm Prockl , who had previously resigned his mandate, as a member of the Bludenz electoral district on June 8th . He was subsequently able to regain his mandate twice, namely in the state elections in 1994 and 1999 . On December 31, 2000, Helmut Zimmermann ended his state parliament career, with Olga Pircher taking over his mandate .

From 1999 to 2001 he was also deputy state chairman of the SPÖ Vorarlberg .
