Helmuth Cammann

Helmuth Cammann ( February 8, 1927 - January 18, 2010 ) was a German entrepreneur .

life and career

Cammann studied with a degree in economics and business administration . Then he received his doctorate . His dissertation dealt with the correlation between foreign trade and full employment . From 1950 to 1953 he was a consultant at the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (today: Leibniz Institute for Economic Research) in Essen and from 1953 to 1956 economic consultant for the German OECD delegation in Paris. From 1955 to 1957 he was Head of Department at the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) in Luxembourg . From 1957 to 1961 he worked in London as Economic Counselor in the Representation of the European Communities . From 1961 to 1966 he was then Head of Delegation of the EC Commission to the OECD in Paris.

From 1966 until his retirement in the spring of 1992 he was chief executive of the Association of German Banks in Cologne. From 1970 to 1986 he also represented the European banking industry in the Economic and Social Committee of the EC. He was also temporarily Chairman of the Executive Board of the European Bankers Association .

For his services he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class . He was also Commendatore della Republicca Italiana .
