Helmuth Weiss (born March 3, 1948 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and federal civil servant. Weiss was a member of the Federal Council from 1988 to 1989 and a short-term member of the National Council in 1989.

education and profession

Weiss attended elementary school from 1954 to 1958 and then the humanistic grammar school in Krems , where he passed the Matura in 1966. He did his military service and subsequently studied law from 1967 at the University of Vienna , which he obtained in 1972 with the academic degree Mag. Jur. completed. After completing his doctoral studies between 1993 and 1995, he received his doctorate as Dr. iur .

Professionally, Weiss worked as a provisional finance commissioner at the Krems tax office from 1973 to 1975, after which he served as a temporary officer in the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade between 1975 and 1977 . He then worked from 1977 to 1984 as a legally qualified officer at the Lower Austria Military Command and from 1984 worked as an administrative lawyer in the Federal Ministry of National Defense . In 1996 he was promoted to head of department; in 1993 he had already been appointed to the ministerial council. Weiss retired on August 1, 2008 as a brigadier and group leader of the Human Resources and Supplementary Services group.

politics

Weiss has been a member of Dürnstein's municipal council since 1970 and last stood as the top candidate of the FPÖ Dürnstein in the 2010 municipal council elections , with his list gaining three seats and 18.2%. In addition, Weiss was a member of the municipal council of the city of Krems from 1977 to 1988 and city party chairman of the FPÖ Krems from 1976 to 1990. Within the party, Weiss held the function of a member of the state party leadership of the FPÖ Lower Austria from 1978, was a member of the state party executive committee and the state party presidency of the FPÖ Lower Austria, from 1982 to 1990 deputy state party chairman of the FPÖ Lower Austria as well as a member of the federal party leadership of the FPÖ. He represented the FPÖ from November 17, 1988 to October 11, 1989 in the Federal Council and was a member of the National Council for a short time between October 12 and October 16, 1989.
