Hendrik Hubert Frehen

Hendrik Hubert Frehen SMM (born January 24, 1917 in Waubach , Limburg Province , Netherlands ; † October 31, 1986 in Reykjavík ) was the first Roman Catholic bishop of the newly established Reykjavík diocese .

Life

Hendrik Hubert Frehen joined the Congregation of Montfortains Fathers at and received on 18 December 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

In 1968 he was appointed by Pope Paul VI. appointed first bishop of Reykjavík; the previous Apostolic Vicariate was elevated to a diocese with his appointment. The episcopal ordination on December 8, 1968 was donated to him by John Baptist Hubert Theunissen SMM, Archbishop of Blantyre , Malawi; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Roermond , Petrus Joannes Antonius Moors , and the Apostolic Vicar Emeritus in Iceland, Bishop Johánnes Gunnarsson SMM. Motto: Perseverans cum Maria - Persevering with Maria.

He died at the age of 69 in the episcopate.
