Alfred James Jolson

Alfred James Jolson SJ (born June 18, 1928 in Bridgeport , Connecticut , USA ; † March 21, 1994 in Pittsburgh , USA) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Reykjavík .

Life

Alfred James Jolson joined the religious order of the Society of Jesus and studied at Boston College in the USA and Weston College in England . At Harvard University , he graduated with a MBA , at the Pontifical Gregorian University , he was in economics doctorate ( PhD ). Alfred Jolson received on 14 June 1958, the sacrament of Holy Orders . He was a longtime teacher and professor at Jesuit universities in Italy, Rhodesia, Iraq and the United States, including Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia.

In 1987 he was appointed Bishop of Reykjavík by Pope John Paul II . He received his episcopal ordination from John Joseph Cardinal O'Connor , Archbishop of New York; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Helsinki Paul Verschuren SCI and the Bishop of Bridgeport Walter William Curtis .

He died after bypass surgery at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
