Hendrik Vos
Hendrik Vos , also Hinrich Voes (* probably in 's-Hertogenbosch ; † July 1, 1523 in Brussels ), was the first martyr of the Reformation together with Johann van Esschen .
Life
Vos was a member of the Augustinian order in Antwerp . After the provost there , Heinrich von Zütphen , was arrested on September 29, 1522 for preaching Reformation and the monastery was torn down, several Augustinians were arrested. Vos and van Esschen stuck to their convictions and were sentenced to death by fire at the stake . The judgment was carried out on Wednesday, July 1, 1523 in Brussels on the Grote Markt .
When Martin Luther found out about it, he wrote a new song we're lifting .
