Hendrik Bernardus (Henk) Kossen (born December 3, 1923 in Bolsward , Friesland , Netherlands ; † November 25, 2009 in Amsterdam ) was a Mennonite pastor , theologian and professor of practical theology . Around 1968 he was a co-founder of the ecumenical council of churches in the Netherlands.

Kossen came from a Frisian farming family who traditionally supported the Mennonite religious community. The after also from Friesland originating former Catholic priest Menno Simons (1496-1561) named Free Church now comprises only a small minority of the Dutch Protestantism . There are even larger communities in the provinces of Friesland and North Holland in particular .

The Dutch Mennonites (formerly also Mennists) share with other Mennonites principles such as the baptism of confession, the rejection of military service and the oath and the priesthood of all believers. In their lifestyle, many are strongly characterized by abstinence and love of peace. The churches in the Netherlands are also relatively undogmatic in their theology. Kossen also followed this line of tradition and was committed to peace policy for disarmament and against nuclear weapons . His rejection of government military spending led to the point that he refused taxes to pay. Instead, he allowed authorities to auction his household effects. Kossen has dealt with Albert Schweitzer and Eugen Rosenstock-Huessy's view of science among others .
