Ewen Bowie

Ewen Lyall Bowie (born June 29, 1940 in Coupar Angus , Perthshire , Scotland ) is a British Graecist and Fellow of Corpus Christi College and Professor Emeritus of Classical Languages ​​and Literature at Oxford University .

After graduating, Bowie was EP Warren Praelector in Classics at Corpus Christi College from 1965 until retirement in 2007 .

Bowie mainly works on the elegy and iambos of the early Greek period, on the old comedy, on Hellenistic poetry and on the literary culture of the imperial era, in particular on the so-called Second Sophistics , the Greek novel and imperial poetry. He is regarded as one of the leading experts in these specialist areas. Together with André Lardinois from the University of Nijmegen , he founded the Network for the Study of Archaic and Classical Greek Song in spring 2007 . He is also preparing a commentary on the novel of Longos , Daphnis and Chloe .
