Walther Leber (born February 4, 1906 in Laufenburg , † February 4, 1996 in Zofingen , Catholic , entitled to reside in Laufenburg and Wil , since 1959 honorary citizen of Zofingen) was a Swiss politician (FDP) .

Walther Leber was born on February 4, 1906 in Laufenburg as the son of Emil Leber, the town clerk of Laufenburg, and Müller, born Hermine, from Mettau . Between 1926 and 1931, Leber studied natural sciences in Basel and Prague , which he completed in 1931 with the academic degree of Dr. phil. nat. completed.

As a result, he worked as a mathematics teacher from 1931 to 1953 at the Zofingen district school , of which he was also rector from 1944 . In addition, Leber served in the Swiss Army with the rank of colonel .

He married Maria, née Rossi, in 1934. Walther Leber died on February 4, 1996 on his 90th birthday in Zofingen.

Political activity

The free-spirited politician officiated at community level between 1954 and 1973 as mayor of Zofingen. At the same time he represented his party at cantonal level in the Aargau Grand Council , which he presided over in 1972 and 1973. In addition, he took a seat in the National Council from 1959 to 1967 .

In 1973, Leber was also a member of the Aargau Constitutional Council. He also chaired the Aargau Forestry Association from 1958 to 1978, the Wiggertal Regional Planning Group from 1958 to 1971 and the Association of Aargau Local Citizens' Communities, which he initiated and founded in the same year, from 1958 to 1971, and was subsequently appointed honorary president .
