Hendricus Adriaan "Henk" Pellikaan (born November 10, 1910 in Leerdam , † July 24, 1999 in Tilburg ) was a Dutch football player . He was active in the 1930s and 1940s for TSV LONGA from Tilburg and played 13 games in the national team from 1932 to 1946 .

life and career

In the club

As a schoolboy, Pellikaan first played in his home town of Leerdam before joining TSV LONGA at the age of 13. At 17 he finished school and worked for the Gebrs construction company . Pieces . With TSV LONGA, the right runner experienced the club's heyday, which culminated in the championship of the Eerste klasse Süd in front of PSV Eindhoven in 1944 ; LONGA finished the final round of the Dutch championship in third behind De Volewijckers and VUC Den Haag .

In the national team

Pellikaan was appointed to the national team for the first time in 1932. He made his debut on December 4th in Düsseldorf in the 2-0 victory of the Dutch against the team of the German Reich . Together with Wim Anderiesen and Puck van Heel , he formed the runner row in this match, which from then on was to become the core formation of the Dutch. Most recently they played together a year and a half later in the 1934 World Cup round of 16 . At that time Pellikaan was very popular with the public because of his enthusiasm and willingness to work.

However, it was almost three and a half years until his next international match. On October 31, 1937, he made his first comeback in the 3-2 defeat by France in Amsterdam . At first it stayed with this one game. From 1938 he suffered from protracted knee injuries, from 1940 the Second World War and the occupation prevented further international matches. However, since there was a lack of young players after the war, he was reactivated again. The match in Luxembourg on March 10, 1946, which ended 6-2 for the Dutch, was his thirteenth and definitely last in Oranje .

From 1953 Pellikaan was next to Harry Dénis member of the selection committee ( keuze commissie ) of the KNVB , which was responsible for the formation of the national team until 1957.

After his active career, Pellikaan built up his own construction company. He had been a passable amateur tennis player himself; his company attracted attention in the 1960s by building affordable tennis and sports halls. The Pellikaanhal in Tilburg is named after Henk Pellikaan; this is where the team of the multiple Dutch ice hockey champions Trappers play their home games; Pellikaan was temporarily chairman of the association.
