Hans-Alfred "Hennes" Roth (born May 19, 1950 in Cologne ) is a German sports photographer .

biography

Hennes Roth's father, Jakob "Köbes" Roth, was a cycling enthusiast. He was involved in PSV Cologne and was the spokesman for the Cologne six-day race . Son Hennes started taking photos at bike races when he was 13 years old . After leaving school, he initially trained as a typesetter at the publishing house that published the magazine Radsport .

At the beginning of the 1970s, Roth was first used as a photographer by this publisher. The first major sporting event in which he took part as a professional photographer was the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . Since then, Roth has been one of the most sought-after sports photographers in Germany; his focus is on cycling and ice hockey .

In 2001 Hennes Roth won the Sven Simon Prize for the best sports photography of the year, and in 2005 he took second place.

Roth is married with two sons and lives in Pulheim . In 2013 he retired professionally. In 2016 the book Tourleben - Four Decades of Cycling Photography was published , which gives an overview of Hennes Roth's life's work.
