history

The mill's overshot waterwheel

The Brandenburg State Office for the Preservation of Monuments and the State Archaeological Museum (BLDAM) is only comparatively vague and states that the structure was built as a water mill in the second half of the 18th century. The community states on an information board in front of the building that the structure was built in 1798 as a fulling mill for the Strausberg cloth making trade . She relies on documents from Hennickendorfer Heimatfreunde. According to these documents, the trade was obliged to build two bridges over the Straussgraben; one above and one below the mill. They were still obliged to maintain the two structures. According to tradition, this definition led to protracted disputes with local farmers. They complained that the meadows were flooded and the bridges were impassable.

On the night of April 9th to 10th, 1848, the mill burned down for reasons that have not yet been clarified. Only 10 years later did the miller apply for a new building, which was approved in the same year. The master miller Ernst Schießer has been handed down as the owner of the building from 1921. He converted the mill to an electric drive and had a new mill wheel made. A bakery with two ovens came next to the mill. In the 21st century, the mill is owned by the miller family in the 5th generation. She produces animal feed, which is offered in the adjoining farm shop. In 2015 the overshot mill wheel was restored.

Building description

The structure was essentially built from bricks , most of which were plastered . The result was a two-storey building with a gable roof sloping towards the street . The Mühlengraben flows along the western side. Here the craftsmen used unhewn field stones that were not layered. This is followed by a three-storey building made of brick to the south. He wears a cross-pitched gable roof. Along Mühlenstraße there is an annex to the west with a passage that allows access to the inner courtyard.
