Henning Plessner

Henning Plessner (* 1965 ) is a German psychologist , sports scientist and university professor .

Life

From 1986 Plessner studied psychology at the Technical University of Braunschweig . After graduating from 1992 to 1997, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Psychology at the University of Hildesheim . In 1997 he was with the work of the position effect in judges judgments in gymnastics at the Technical University of Chemnitz-Zwickau to Dr. phil. PhD.

From 1997 to 2008 Plessner was initially a research assistant, then from 2001 a university assistant in the department of social psychology at the Psychological Institute of Heidelberg University . During this time he taught at the University of Göttingen in 2003 and at the New School University in New York in 2004 . Also in 2004, Plessner completed his habilitation at the Faculty of Behavioral and Empirical Cultural Studies at the University of Heidelberg with the thesis The evaluation of athletic performance as a process of social information processing .

In 2008 he was appointed professor at the University of Leipzig to the Chair of Social Psychology and Methodology , and he was director of the Psychological Institute 1, 2010 followed Plessner an appointment as Professor of Sports Science with a focus on sports psychology at the Institute of Sports and Sports Science at the University of Heidelberg . In addition, Plessner has been a member of the ethics committee of the German Society for Psychology since 2008 and has been a member of the executive committee of the German Association for Sports Science since 2011 as vice-president for the promotion of young talent.

Research priorities

The focus of Plessner's research is judgment and decision-making in sport, in particular the optimization of combat and referee performance as well as social motivation and athletic performance. Plessner also deals with the psychology of intuition.
