Henri Gaston Darien
Henri Gaston Darien (actually Henry Gaston Adrien ; born January 8, 1864 in Paris ; † January 7, 1926 there ) was a French landscape and genre painter.
Henri Gaston Darien was born the son of a businessman and the younger brother of the writer Georges Darien (1862-1921).
Darien studied at the École des beaux-arts de Paris with Jules Lefebvre and Antoine Guillemet . From 1886 he exhibited in the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français and became its member.
At first he painted landscapes, then he specialized in scenes from Parisian life.
It received an honorable mention in 1889, a 3rd class medal in 1897 and a 2nd class medal in 1899, then a bronze medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 . He worked in Paris in winter on subjects related to Parisian life and in Normandy in summer, where he owned a house in Bénouville (Seine-Maritime) near Étretat on the English Channel . There he painted maritime scenes and landscapes. He also created wall paintings in Vanves Town Hall .
He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1910.
He died on January 7, 1926 in the Marmottan Hospital in Paris.
