Henri Lemaître

Henri Lemaître (born October 17, 1921 in Mortsel , Belgium , † April 20, 2003 in Rome ) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop and a Vatican diplomat .

Life

Henri Lemaître studied at the seminary Mechelen and received on 28 July 1946, the priestly ordination . Pope Paul VI appointed him titular Archbishop of Tongeren in 1969 . He was ordained bishop on July 20, 1969, by Léon-Joseph Cardinal Suenens , Archbishop of Mechelen. Co -consecrators were Archbishop and later Curia Cardinal Opilio Rossi and the Bishop of Antwerp, Jules Victor Daem .

Lemaître entered the diplomatic service of the Roman Curia and was Apostolic Nuncio in Vietnam and Cambodia from 1969 to 1975 , from 1975 to 1981 in Uganda , from 1985 to 1992 in Denmark , Finland , Iceland , Norway and Sweden, and most recently in the Netherlands of 1992 to 1997.

His resignation was granted in 1997 by Pope John Paul II .
