Henri Padou senior (born May 15, 1898 in Tourcoing , France , † November 19, 1981 ) was a French water polo player and swimmer. He is considered one of the best French water polo players of all time and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1970 .

Padou already took part in the Olympic tournament in Antwerp in 1920. He started in the 100 meter freestyle and in the 4 × 200 meter relay, but could not place in both competitions. Also in water polo he was eliminated in the first round with the selection of France after a 1: 5 against Brazil.

At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 he threw a goal in a 3-2 win over Belgium and won the gold medal with his teammates Paul Dujardin , Georges Rigal , Albert Deborgies , Noël Delberghe , Robert Desmettre and Albert Mayaud from the French national team. In addition, he was again in the 100 meter freestyle and entered the 4x200m relay, but could not achieve any success there either. At the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, the French team lost 3: 5 in the semifinals against Hungary and won the bronze medal after winning against the USA, Great Britain and Argentina, with the medal winners being played according to the elaborate Bergvall system . Padou threw a total of three goals in the tournament.

Padou did not take part in the 1932 Olympic Games, but did again in Berlin in 1936 at the age of 38. The French team managed to survive the group stage, but lost 3-1 to Belgium and 5-0 to Hungary in the final round and were eliminated from the tournament without a medal.

Padou played all his life for the national series winner and record champion EN Tourcoing . His son Henri Padou junior won a bronze medal in the 4 × 200 meter freestyle relay at the 1948 Olympic Games in London.
