Henricus Ubbius , also Henricus Ubbinus m actually Hinrich Ubbenm , (* around 1495 in Easter March , † March 18, 1541 in the north ) was a German lawyer , East Frisian chancellor and chronicler .

Henricus Ubbius was enrolled on April 21, 1515 as Henricus Obbo de Eymda at the University of Cologne and on November 10, 1517 was awarded the title of Baccalaureus of Law. A few years later, namely 1528/29, he studied again in Cologne , among others with Johannes Matthias Ortter from Frickenhausen am Main (then also Frishemius, Phrissemius), who was not only professor of civil law , but also editor together with Alardus of Amsterdam which was Rudolf Agricola's works . This teacher strongly influenced Ubbius with regard to his humanistic character.

Ubbius did not acquire his doctorate until 1539. From at least 1532 he had also been dean of the chapter of the St. Stephen and Willehad Church in Bremen ; obviously an office that was not linked to permanent presence in Bremen . In addition, Ubbius was also a councilor to the anti-Reformation archbishop of Bremen and administrator of Verden, Christoph von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (1487–1558). In 1539 he became Chancellor of East Frisia. Shortly afterwards, in this office, he conducted negotiations with Fraulein Maria von Jever .

The historical importance of Ubbius lies in his "Frisiae descriptio". This text was not discovered in the Vatican archives until 1913 . Almost a century before the great work by Ubbo Emmius was published , it is the first description of East Frisia . At the same time, the writing is probably the most important source for the ecclesiastical political revolution of the twenties of the 16th century in East Frisia. It is believed that the "Descriptio" was written in Italy - and probably primarily for Italian readers too - (around 1530).

Ubbius died in the north after a long illness.
