Henrike Grohs

Henrike Grohs (born June 8, 1964 in West Berlin ; † March 13, 2016 in Grand-Bassam , Ivory Coast ) was a German cultural manager and ethnologist .

Life

Grohs was the daughter of the ethnologist Elisabeth Grohs, née Beringer (1931–1996) and the Africa scientist Gerhard Grohs . She came from Berlin and grew up in Mainz , where she passed her Abitur in 1983 at Gutenberg High School . She then studied ethnology at the Free University of Berlin . Between 2002 and 2009 she was a project manager for the education program of the Berlin Philharmonic and worked together with Peter Winkels as a cultural manager for the Next-Intercultural Projects in the House of World Cultures (HKW) in Berlin. In 2009 she moved to the Goethe-Institut in Johannesburg in South Africa as a consultant for culture and development . She was a member of the Music In Africa digital concept of the Music In Africa Foundation of the same name, which was founded in July 2013 with the support of the Siemens Stiftung . From December 1, 2013, she headed the Goethe Institute in Abidjan , Ivory Coast.

Grohs was killed in the attacks on March 13, 2016 in Grand-Bassam . 14 other civilians died with her. She was 51 years old.

In her honor, endowed with 20,000 euros "Henrike Grohs-Prize for African artists" will (by the Goethe Institute from 2017 year english Henrike Grohs Prize for African artists ) awarded.
