Henry Brooke (lawyer)

Henry Brooke (* around 1698 ; † November 24, 1752 ) was an English lawyer and professor at the University of Oxford .

Life

Brooke (DCL) was the successor of James Bouchier in 1736 Regius Professor of Civil Law from 1737 to 1752 and a Fellow at All Souls College . Brooke was awarded the Legum Doctor (LL.D.).

In 1738 Brooke married Esther, daughter of the Oxford doctor William Ives. Brooke died on November 24, 1752 and was buried in St. Mary's Church in Oxford. After Brooke's death, William Blackstone was proposed as his successor. But since Blackstone was considered politically unreliable and did not want to agree to the conditions, Herbert Jenner was appointed instead.
