John Griffith (lawyer)

John Griffith (* around 1548; † 1609 ) was a Welsh politician from 1571/72 and 1604 to 1609 in the English Parliament .

Griffith was the son of Margaret and William Griffith († 1587) from Plas Mawr , Caernarvon . 1548 he became a Fellow at All Souls College of Oxford University , earned his Bachelor of Civil Law in 1551 and his doctorate in 1563. 1559 he took over the post of Regius Professor of Civil Law from his predecessor, William Aubrey , which he held until the handover to Robert Lougher Held in 1566. From 1561 to 1564 he was director of the New Inn Hall, parts of which were preserved in Balliol College . In 1564 he was accepted into the Doctors' Commons .

In 1571 he was elected to parliament for the constituency of Caernarvon for the first time and was re-elected in 1572. In 1582 he was appointed High Sheriff of Caernarvonshire , in 1587 and 1593 High Sheriff of Anglesey . In 1604 he was re-elected to Parliament for the constituency of Caernarvonshire, where he remained until his death in 1609.

He married Margaret, daughter of Rhys Thomas of Aber and the widow of Edward Griffith of Penrhyn. They had four sons and three daughters.
