Henry J. Duveen
Henry Joseph Duveen (born October 26, 1854 in Meppel , Netherlands , † January 15, 1919 in New York ) was a British - American antique and art dealer and philatelist .
Henry J. Duveen was the son of the Jewish trader Joseph Duveen (1820–1877) and his wife Eva van Minden (1812–1864). Since 1876 he and his older brother Joseph Joel Duveen (1843-1908) ran an antique and art shop in London ("Duveen Brothers"). The brothers built one of the largest antiques and art stores at the time, which had branches in New York and Paris . Henry J. Duveen ran the New York branch, founded in 1886, supported by his nephew Joseph Duveen (1869–1939). Henry Duveen was a collector of art and stamps . With his stamp collection he was a general collector with a special focus on British Guiana and the British colonies. He owned a total of four Red and Blue Mauritius .
