The Klusbach , also called Chlusbach , is a brook in the Baselland . It is about three kilometers long and flows into the Birs at Aesch .

Surname

Klus , from the Latin clusa = enclosed space, is a name for a transverse valley of a river or stream with steep, rocky side walls.

The Klusbach rises at an altitude of about 444  m above sea level. M. in a meadow north of the Upper Chlus in the municipality of Pfeffingen BL . It flows initially in a north northwesterly direction at the ruins Schalberg and the Stone Age inhabited scarf mountain cave over, then bends sharply to the right and now runs first parallel to Klusstrasse and then to Bachmattweg eastward flowing at the southern foot of the largest vineyard area of Canton Chlus ( Lower Chus - , Upper Chusberg and Vorderer Chusberg ) through the Lower Chlus . In the Vorderen Chlus , by the Etzmatt corridor , it is fed on its right by the Leimattbach coming from the village of Pfeffingen . It reaches the western edge of Aesch at Flur Grossmatt and finally flows out at an altitude of about 299  m above sea level. M. piped underground north of the Bahnhofsstrasse bridge from the left into the Birs .

Catchment area

The catchment area of ​​the Klusbach is limited in the southeast by the Schlossgrabenbach , in the southwest by the Langimattbach , in the northwest by the Steinwegbächli and in the north by the Erlengrabenbach .

Tributaries

The soils of the Klustal are characterized by impermeable alluvial loam and clays from the Jurassic era, especially oxford clays . In the resulting wet meadows, u. a. the gold buttercup is splendid. These wetlands are also an ideal refuge for numerous animal species. Thus, in the floodplain of the corridor Erzmatt the common frog , the thread and the Alpine newt and in the zone around the Schalberg the fire salamander before. The two-striped spring damsel and blue-winged dragonfly live throughout the valley . In 2007, the sparrowhawk , rook , goldfinch , green woodpecker , tree sparrow , red and song thrush and in 2012 the common snipe were observed from the bird world . In the years 2003–2004 the stream, which had been channeled in 1930, was renatured and in 2006 the jackdaw crab was reinstated. In the Klusbach , the Aesch-Angenstein Fisheries Association (FVA) releases trout hatchlings every May . The vineyards on the Klus Wine Trail are a popular destination. Above the Klushof , the stream forms a small waterfall.
