In 1961, together with the theologian John C. Whitcomb, he wrote the book The Genesis Flood (German edition: Die Sintflut ), which made the concepts of "creation science" and flood geology known. The flood geology assumes that the earth, as described in the Bible, was really completely flooded during the flood . This book had a major impact on the development of creationism in the United States. Morris is therefore considered the father of creationist "creation science". In this book he wrote that his views were heavily influenced by George McCready Price . Price was an Adventist teacher who defended the concept of creation against evolutionary theory in the early 20th century .

In 1963, Morris founded the Creation Research Society with nine like-minded people . In 1970 he founded the Institute for Creation Research (ICR). After Morris retired, his son John D. Morris (born 1946) took over the presidency of the ICR.

In addition to most of his work dealing with "creation science" and questions of evolution , he also wrote the books Many Infallible Proofs and The Bible Has The Answer , which deal with general Christian apologetic topics.
