from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henry Ostfeld ( pseudonym Willem Eickboom ; * before 1931, † after 1945) was a German vocational school teacher , painter , textbook author, especially for advertising graphics, as well as a draftsman , illustrator and photographer .

Life

Since the early 1930s, Henry Ostfeld published various school books , some of which were published in several editions, particularly by the Müller publishing house in Eberswalde . He wrote writings on spray technology for shop windows and advertising, writing and poster painting, decoration and instructions for the commercial artist and advertiser.

In addition, Ostfeld provided the drawings, initials and photographs for the commemorative publication written by Karl Rabe in 1937 as a "contribution to cultural history " and published by Schmidt in Hanover for the 100th anniversary of the Hanover City Commercial Teaching Centers, today's vocational school 11 of the Hanover region .

During the Second World War, Ostfeld acted as a kind of mentor for the young comic artist Hansrudi Wäscher , who would later be trained as a " commercial advertiser" . Ostfeld gave private drawing lessons to the launderer , who was integrated into the Hitler Youth (HJ), and took him on bicycle tours in the country, where they then did watercolors together . During the air raids on Hanover , Ostfeld often did not go to the ( air raid ) basement, but mostly stayed in his apartment on the fourth floor of the apartment building. Several times he saved the building and its residents "from destruction by throwing incendiary bombs down on the street in the attic ".
