Henryk Ittar
Henryk, Italian Enrico Ittar (* 1773 in Catania , Sicily , † around 1850 near Dubno , Ukraine ) was a Polish-Italian architect . He worked for the Radziwiłł and Zamoyski magnate families , among others .
His parents were the Polish architect Stefano Ittar (1724–1790) , who worked in Catania and Valletta , and the Catanian architect's daughter Rosaria, born Battaglia. The father's works include the Porta Garibaldi, the facade of the Collegiata , the Piazza Dante and the dome of San Nicolò l'Arena in Catania and the National Library in Valletta. Ittar's eldest brother Sebastiano Ittar (1768–1847) accompanied Lord Elgin to Greece and worked in Sicily and Malta as an architect and cartographer .
Henryk Ittar is said to have come to Poland via Rome , where numerous projects and buildings are attributed to him. For example, he designed an unfinished theater for the city of Poznań and the “Tomb of Illusions”, the “ Hippodrome ” and the “ Amphitheater ” for the Arkadia landscape garden by Helena Radziwiłłowa (1853–1821) near Łowicz . For Stanisław Kostka Zamoyski (1775-1856) he worked on his castles in Zamość and Klemensów (near Szczebrzeszyn ). From 1805 he taught at the Royal Lyceum in Zamość. He later worked in Volhynia , his father's homeland.
His brother Benedykt, Italian Benedetto Ittar (1778-1858), who came with him to Zamość, was a painter and engraver .
