Herbert Dinhof

Herbert Dinhof (born October 16, 1933 ; † March 31, 2011 ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) in the Vienna state parliament and local council . He was particularly active in the field of health and social policy.

Life

In his youth, Dinhof became politically active in his home district of Penzing . After the end of the Second World War , the Rote Falken joined the SPÖ and the Socialist Youth in 1947. From the latter he later became the chairman of Vienna. In 1969 he was elected to the Vienna City Council, of which he was a member until 1995. During this time he became its Vice Chairman in 1989 and served as its First Chairman from 1991 to 1995. He replaced Ernst Outolny , who had been elected 2nd President of the State Parliament. In addition, he was managing director of the then board of trustees “Wiener Pensionistenheim” for more than two decades. From 1971 to 1995 Dinhof was the chairman of the SPÖ Penzing.

In addition to politics, Dinhof was honorary chairman of the adult education center in Penzing, vice- chairman of the board of trustees of the Austro-Chinese Society and from 1997 to 2008 president of the Vienna Chess Association. He later became its honorary president. The actress Petra Dinhof is his daughter.

Awards

He received the Gold Medal of Honor for Services to the State of Vienna , the Silver Medal of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria and in 1995 the Viktor Adler Plaque of the SPÖ.
