Herbert Franz Wolf

Herbert Franz Wolf (born June 24, 1927 in Rudelsdorf ; † May 15, 1993 in Leipzig ) was a German sociologist who taught as a professor at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and was one of the founders of sociology in the GDR .

Life

After the Second World War , in which he was first an air force helper and then a tank grenadier, Wolf finished his school education in 1947 at the Schönebeck secondary school . He then studied from 1947 to 1949 at the University of Rostock and from 1949 to 1951 at the University of Leipzig social sciences . There he was in 1964 with a thesis on the formal sociology Leopold von Wiese Dr. phil. PhD . A second doctorate ( Dr. sic. Phil. ) Followed in 1973, also in Leipzig . The title of the dissertation was: Socialist perspective awareness as a subjective driving force of action .

From 1969 to 1976 Wolf taught as a lecturer in sociology at the University of Leipzig, interrupted by a six-month guest lecturer at the University of Havana (1974), from 1956 to 1990 he was a full professor of Marxist-Leninist sociology there . He was a co-founder of the Society for Sociology of the GDR and from 1989 to 1991 chairman of the Regional Association South and from 1991 co-editor of the Berlin Journal for Sociology . From 1992 until his death he was a member of the German Society for Sociology .

Wolf is counted among the co-founders of academic sociology in the GDR because he and Robert Wilhelm Schulz initiated a sociological seminar at Leipzig University as early as 1957 , where empirical social research was soon carried out.
