Herbert Frenzel (Romanist)

Herbert Frenzel (born June 29, 1913 in Cairo ; † October 25, 1968 in Innsbruck ) was a German Romance and Italianist.

life and work

Frenzel received his doctorate in Bonn in 1936 with Ernst Robert Curtius on Alfredo Oriani and Italian nationalism. From 1936 to 1966 he was (apart from military service) lecturer at the University of Genoa , and from 1956 also director of the German cultural institute there. In 1964 he qualified as a professor in Innsbruck with the font Ariost and romantic poetry . From 1966 to 1968 he taught as a full professor for Romance literature at the University of Innsbruck .
