Herbert Grommes

Herbert Grommes (born September 6, 1965 in Schönberg ) is a Belgian lawyer and politician of the Christian Social Party (CSP) who is active in local politics in Sankt Vith in the German-speaking community .

biography

Grommes studied law and made herein be licentiate at the UCL in New lion and the Institut Saint-Louis (Brussels) and makes a licentiate as interpreter at the Institut Libre Marie Haps in Brussels . Grommes then worked in the investment fund sector in Luxembourg and then headed the investment fund legal department of a French bank. He was State Secretary under the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Melchior Wathelet . In October 1994 he was elected to the parish council of Sankt Vith . In May 1995, Grommes also entered the parliament of the German-speaking Community as a candidate for the CSP , where he held his mandate for the CSP until June 2004. In June 2004 he was elected to the Walloon Parliament in the Verviers district. In May 2008, Grommes became a lay judge (échevin) in Sankt Vith. In 2009 he was not re-elected to the Walloon Parliament, but he won a seat in the Parliament of the German-speaking Community for the CSP. From 2010 to 2014 he worked in the Walloon government, first under Agriculture Minister Benoît Lutgen and then under Finance Minister André Antoine . Due to the election failure of the Center Démocrate Humaniste , he did not achieve a mandate in the Walloon parliament in 2014 either, but he did get into the parliament of the German-speaking community again. In addition, he remained a lay judge in Sankt Vith. Here he ran in the local elections in 2018 as a mayoral candidate for a "New Citizens' Alliance", with which he won 55 percent of the vote. On December 3, 2018, he replaced the previous mayor Christian Krings in his office.
