Herbert Haum

Herbert Haum (born November 30, 1925 in Birkhausen , Germany; † December 25, 2010 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German tourism manager. He is considered a veteran of German tourism and the founder of health and wellness trips.

Life

Herbert Haum, son of a glass blower from Birklingen, studied business administration in Munich and started at Unilever in Hamburg after graduating . In 1964 he became managing director of Neckermann Reisen , today Thomas Cook , which became a pioneer of cheap holiday flights under his leadership . In 1968 he was replaced by Peter Neckermann, the son of the company's founder, Josef Neckermann . In 1970, Haum played a key role in founding the tour operator ITS Reisen for Kaufhof AG and finally founded his own tour operator in 1975, the FIT Reisen Gesellschaft für Gesundheites Reisen mbH, which laid the foundation for health and wellness trips. Herbert Haum had to retire from the management due to a serious illness in 2005 and died in Frankfurt am Main at the end of 2010.

The company remained family-owned until 2009.
