Herbert Köhler (born July 9, 1906 in Limbach ; † 1982 ) was a dialect poet of the Saxon Vorerzgebirge .

Life

Köhler was the descendant of Scottish immigrants. In 1921 he took up an apprenticeship as a glove maker. During the Second World War he was deployed in Belgium, among other places, where his homesickness gave rise to his first dialect story, which was later followed by over 60 more. After the end of the war he worked as an export merchant.

As a part-time job, he was active from 1956 as an employee of the dictionary of Upper Saxon dialect research at the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig . He was also an editorial employee of the home magazine Der Heimatfreund for the Erzgebirge .

Through his work he helped to record the old vocabulary of the Vorerzgebirge dialect, which more than other Erzgebirge dialects was exposed to the gradual decline and is hardly spoken today. Through this he earned lasting merit. Köhler's motto in life was: My life has made me experience and feel a lot, just not boredom!
