Herbert König (* 1820 in Dresden ; † June 13, 1876 in Niederlößnitz ; also Heribert König ) was a German draftsman, illustrator and watercolor painter.

After König completed his training at the Dresden Art Academy , he joined a theater troupe and tried his hand at acting, poet and director for some time. In the course of the political events ( March Revolution ), König gave up the stage in 1848 and settled in Munich as a draftsman and caricaturist .

There he earned his living with humorous, but also satirical, sketches for various newspapers and magazines; u. a. the flying leaves .

König's study trips repeatedly took him to Austria, Hungary, Belgium and Holland. In 1852 König accepted an offer in Leipzig and worked as an illustrator for the magazines Die Gartenlaube and Illustrirte Zeitung . He later moved - again as an illustrator - to Berlin for five years . His portraits of actors and famous contemporaries were widely acclaimed.

Then König returned to Saxony and settled in Niederlößnitz, where he acquired a country house-like villa in the Swiss style at Körnerweg 2 . He died there on June 13, 1876. König is buried in the Radebeul-West cemetery.
