Herbert Kober (entrepreneur)
Herbert Kober (* 1933 ) is a German entrepreneur. Together with two brothers, he expanded his father's business in Kötz , district of Günzburg , into the global company AL-KO Kober with the areas of vehicle, equipment and ventilation technology.
Life
In 1947 Kober started an apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer with his father; he was the sixth employee of Alois Kober's company (1908–1996). In 1931, as a 23-year-old locksmith, he went into business for himself and founded a company in Großkötz . The starting point for the creation of the AL-KO brakes was a car accident involving Alois and Herbert Kober in 1952. In 1953 the company had grown to 30 employees. In 1958 Herbert Kober took over the commercial management of the company, brother Kurt took over the management of the technical department, and the younger brother Willy was now involved in work preparation. In the same year the first subsidiary was founded, the company employed 150 people.
In the following decades, further subsidiaries were founded. In 1959 the sole proprietorship was converted into a KG , which was transferred to AL-KO Kober AG on January 1, 1987 . Herbert, Kurt and Willy Kober were appointed as board members. Herbert Kober was CEO until 1999 and then moved to the Supervisory Board, which he chaired until the beginning of July 2013. In 2016, AL-KO Kober AG in Kötz is an international, family-run group of companies with around 4,000 employees at 45 locations worldwide.
Herbert Kober was Vice President of the Swabian Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1994 to 1998 and a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Assembly from 1987 to 1998. He was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholics of the Diocese of Augsburg .

Kober supported delinquent or drug addict young people with social integration, with personal care and with the provision of a job or apprenticeship position in his company. Herbert Kober has achieved special merits through the "Cilly and Herbert Kober Foundation" founded by him and his wife Gäzilia, called Cilly (* May 2, 1935) to promote international understanding, culture and education as well as the idea of home. The couple also founded the "Cilly and Herbert Kober Kindergarten Foundation" to promote the upbringing and education of children.
