Herbert Koch (chemist)
Herbert Koch (born May 24, 1904 in Hammersbeck , † September 3, 1967 ) was a German chemist.
life and work
Koch attended high school in Stolberg . He then studied chemistry at RWTH Aachen University as well as at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and Friedrich Schiller University in Jena .
Herbert Koch was a scientific member of the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim an der Ruhr and head of department at the institute. His scientific work included the investigation of the isomerization of hydrocarbons to increase the octane number . He was co-editor of the magazine fuel chemistry .
Koch became famous for the Koch reaction named after him for the preparation of carboxylic acids from alkenes , water and carbon monoxide under acid catalysis :
