Herbert Lungwitz

Herbert Lungwitz (* 1913 in Weimar , † 1992 in Essen ) was a German sculptor. He mainly worked with wood and stone or with industrial waste.

Live and act

Herbert Lungwitz was a trained stonemason and architectural draftsman and then studied art in Weimar. After the Second World War he went to Essen and worked as a sculpture teacher at the Folkwang School in Essen for two and a half years . From 1951 Lungwitz worked as a freelance artist. From 1961 to 1983 Herbert Lungwitz was director of the Essen Artists' Forum .

He designed facades such as those of the Amerikahaus , the Grillo Theater , the Dresdner Bank or the TÜV headquarters in Essen and numerous sculptures.

Herbert Lungwitz worked as an art teacher at the city of Essen in the 1970s. Humboldt School Gymnasium.

His studio and workshop were located in the former machine house for shaft VI of the Zollverein colliery . From 1988 Lungwitz's studio was located in a former school building in the Steele district of Essen , where he exhibited his work and turned the school grounds into a sculpture park.
