Herbert Mayr (politician)

Herbert Mayr (born April 27, 1943 in Bolzano ; † September 6, 2015 ) was an Italian athlete and politician of the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP).

Mayr attended the Franciscan high school in Bozen . He then studied at the Sports University in Bologna , where he graduated with honors in 1966. He then returned to Bolzano, where he taught at the commercial college. As a part-time job, he was head of the athletics department in a sports club. In the late 1970s, he taught at the University of Innsbruck . From 1987 to 1994 he was president of the SSV Bozen .

In 1980, 1985, 1989 and 1995 Mayr was elected to the Bolzano municipal council on the list of the South Tyrolean People's Party. From 1985 to 1995 he was vice mayor of the city. After retiring from politics in 2000, he became President of the SEAB Energy and Environment Company (until 2010).

After the outbreak of Parkinson's disease , he took over the presidency of the South Tyrolean Parkinson's Society from 2002 to 2011.
