Herbert Morgan (musician)
Herbert L. Morgan Jr. (also Herbie Morgan, Rahman Herbie Morgan ; * 9. September 1929 , † 19 July 2013 in New Jersey ) was an American jazz - tenor saxophonist .
Morgan recorded with Dave Burns for Vanguard Records in the early 1960s and with Larry Young several times in the second half of the decade , appearing on his blue-note albums Of Love and Peace (1966), Contrasts, Mother Ship and Trip Merchant (1969) with Lee Morgan . In the 1970s, Morgan was a member of the wind section of the Latin jazz band Ocho . In 2004 he performed at the Vision Festival in New York in an ensemble project by Amiri Baraka called Blue Ark: the Wordship , in which Pheeroan akLaff and Vijay Iyer also played. In the field of jazz he was involved in six recording sessions between 1966 and 2006.
